QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- A Bachelor’s degree in Management/Sports Administration or related area.
- At least 3 years relevant experience in a University/tertiary environment.
- A Master’s degree in the relevant discipline would be an added advantage.
JOB SUMMARY
The Sports and Recreation Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the Sports and recreational activities at Midlands State University. The Sports and Recreation Coordinator plays an integral role in the formation of students and sets the tone for much of the student experience with regards to sport and recreation. With the Dean of Students, the Coordinator provides leadership and direction through critical student development, cultural, and sports programming. The Sports and Recreation Coordinator maintains liaison relationships with both internal and external stakeholders in ensuring the creation of an enabling and competitive sporting environment for Midlands State University students.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide overall strategic leadership, direction and management to the University Management with regards to sport and recreation in line with the University Strategic Plan;
- Develop strategic and business plans including annual work plans, performance contracts, budgets, and performance targets for the Sports and Recreation Department;
- Contribute towards the marketing of the Academy programs to industry and commerce;
- Ensure that proper management, operational efficiency, corporate responsibilities and expectations are met;
- Properly direct, manage the staff, property, equipment and finances of the Sports Department;
- Develop and manage the Sports Department by ensuring a wide range of organized activities are on offer;
- Ensure that proper governance structures that promote best practices in sport development are put in in place in developing a University Sports Academy.
- Develop and implement a clear sport development programme that will lead to sporting excellence;
- Develop collaboration and strategic partnerships with sports organizations (Sports and Recreation Commission, Zimbabwe Olympic Committee and National Sports Associations, institutions, corporate world and government agencies);
- Ensure compliance with the National Sports Strategy.
