A local faith based Non-Governmental Organization involved in development, advocacy and humanitarian
work seeks to fill the following vacant positions:
JOB TITLE: HEALTH AND HYGIENE PROMOTION INTERN
Purpose of the position:
The Health and Hygiene Promotion intern will be responsible for assisting the implementation of
strategies to address a wide range of health issues. S/he will provide a direct link to the community
and will play a vital role in ensuring that projects are accessible and relevant to the communities in
accordance with the culture and practices of the local population.
Responsibilities:
• Support coordination activities on different topics in support of the Risk Communication
and Community Engagement activities (RCCE); this might include promoting health
hygiene, information on subjects linked to disease outbreaks, malnutrition, cholera, malaria,
HIV/AIDS amongst others.
• Update the Health Promotion strategy and related activities through an annual plan
(objectives, target population, campaigns, messages, activities, etc.)
• Analyse and understand the behaviour and/or practices of interfaith groups to adapt health
activities to the target group (support social mapping, use of specific tools to measure and
follow up activities)
• Promote organizational principles, protocols, and standards with the aim of increasing the
knowledge of the target communities in relation to their health
• Liaise with other relevant actors to enhance campaigns, train faith leaders
• Be familiar with protocols for sexual and gender-based violence and ensure their application
(e.g., referring victims to the medical team for treatment)
• Contribute to monthly reports according to guidelines (statistical reports, etc.)
Requirements:
• A minimum of a diploma in any of the following: Public health, Environmental/Health
Sciences, Development Studies, Nursing science, or any other relevant discipline.
• 1 year professional experience working with communities and/or local organizations on
awareness raising, prevention, mobilization, and/or community strengthening
• Familiar with a four community-based approach
• Flexible and able to work on various topics such as HIV/tuberculosis, nutrition, sexual and
reproductive health, epidemics, sexual and gender-based violence, etc.
• IT skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Strong team player
• Willingness to work in all kinds of contexts nationwide, including rural areas
• Flexible and able to manage stress
• Ability to train others
