Qualifications, Experience and Attributes:
Must have minimum of a Master of Science in Business Administration, Computer
Science, Accounting, Finance or equivalent.
A minimum of five years’ experience of research grant management
An excellent record in project management skills, budgeting and accounting
experience with strong ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Successful administrative and professional development experience preferably in a
teaching/learning centre.
Good communication skills.
Experience in prioritizing projects, meeting deadlines with meticulous attention to
detail and high level accuracy both individually and in a team setting
Proven commitment to academic excellence and innovation.

The ideal candidate should have:-
Good leadership qualities to ensure smooth and efficient operations of grant
programmes.
Outstanding organizational skills and exceptional budgeting and monitoring skills.
Knowledge in working and engaging donors and working with the Deputy Bursar,
Specific Funds to keep the University fiscally sound.
Ability to work under pressure and observe and respect deadlines
Computer literate
Efficient, organised and hardworking.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties of the Grants Manager will include:-
Managing and supporting the research grant requirements.
Reviewing grant/contract/MOU/MOA finances, compliance requirements and
reporting through each stage in the life cycle of a grant/contract/MOU/MOA, from
implementation to close out.
Documenting payments and expenditure of research grants and managing grant
databases.
Identifying and developing strategies to optimise the grants administration processes
for University researchers alongside the Deputy Bursar, Projects.
Overseeing grant implementation according to the operational and financial needs of
the funder/donor and the University.
Preparing and submitting online grant applications for researchers.
Working with researchers to ensure budget plans and allocations to specific budget
lines are adhered to.
Overseeing the job of invoicing, accounting, reporting and other administrative
functions to ensure successful execution of grants.
Creating and maintaining budget and budget narrative templates for proposals,
grants, contracts and amendments. These are both donor specific and generic for the
University.
Analysing the budget trends and making recommendations for cost control and
reduction for various grants.
Educating researchers on policies, preparation of financial reports and ensuring
compliance to reporting structures, upcoming deadlines and deliverables.
Engaging with donor agencies and working with awardees to ensure all requisite
paper work is in place, such as letters of support, due diligence forms, budget
justifications, etc.
Preparing financial reports, annual budgets and procurement plans for the
Directorate.
Maintaining records of all payments and receivables and prepare monthly records for
all grant related activities while safeguarding the University overheads
