Qualifications, Experience and Attributes:
A first degree in Facilities Management or equivalent technical qualifications in the
discipline of Engineering and the Built Environment.
A relevant Postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.
At least 4 years’ of professional or technical experience in building management,
involving responsibility for building and maintenance, safety and security, purchase of
supplies and personnel supervision
A clean class four (4) Driver’s Licence
Key Competencies
Demonstrate knowledge and hands on experience in the care and maintenance of
public buildings, facilities and spaces.
Knowledge of statutory and local authority regulations and procedures governing
contracts, services and equipment.
Ability to meet deadlines, to prioritise workflow and work independently
Ability to lead, motivate, plan and supervise the work of others.
Ability to estimate material and equipment necessary for varied maintenance and
repair jobs.
Ability to read, interpret and draw sketches, pencilled layouts and blueprints.
Ability to recognise safety and security hazards and correct or eliminate them.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate must be able to:-
Evaluate and maintain the condition of the equipment including electrical, air
conditioning, plumbing and security in and around the Library to ensure that all
equipment is working properly.
Maintain routine daily, weekly, monthly and annual equipment maintenance and
inspection logs.
Contact and meet with contractors and service providers to obtain estimates for
maintenance projects.
Ensure the safety of the building and facilities from fire, floods, water leakages and
other hazards.
Supervise and train staff in the cleaning of the building and ensure proper use and
care of the cleaning equipment.
Ensure ground maintenance, good waste disposal systems and compliance with
health and safety regulations.
Participate in the development of Policies and procedures that affect the use of
buildings, facilities and supplies.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the University Librarian.
