Editor-In-Chief for Central Africa Journal of Medicine
Qualifications, Experience and Attributes:
Full Professor in a related field
Applicants must be a highly experienced Scholar with a larger vision within their
specialised field of study or discipline to guide the Journal.
At least 3 years of experience directly related to Journal work including editorial and
publishing
Demonstrated competence and established reputation in research in one’s specialised
field of study.
Must have published articles in peer reviewed reputable Journals (published by
reputed institutions).
A Reviewer with substantial experience in reviewing manuscripts and good peer
review history.
Experience as an Editor in Chief or Member of an Editorial Board for a reputable
Journal.
Key Competencies
Ability to act professionally, without prejudice or conflict of interest and not allowing
their editorial judgement to be influenced by political, commercial and other
considerations that are beyond the scope of each scientific report and analysis of
possible impacts and applications
Unquestionable integrity and confidentiality. Ability to uphold confidentiality and not
disclose confidential information unless authorised by the source of that information.
Refrain from using confidential information for personal gain.
Ability to uphold quality and ensure that peer review and other related publication
assignments are undertaken by qualified specialists, and that these specialists disclose
relevant conflicts of interest as part of the regular review process.
Knowledge of printing procedures and requirements.
Skill in the use of Library resources and open access e-resources.
Ability to use e-publishing resources to publish e-books and explore ideas for editorial
development and potential enhancements to the print and online Journal.
Ability to work under pressure and outside office hours.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate must be able to:-
Create and build an effective, engaged and energetic editorial board to ensure the
Journal’s health and success
Participate in defining and adjusting the Journal’s evolving mission and to understand
and adapt to the changing needs of the readership and be in the optimal position to
have broad oversight of the review process.
Process approximately 15 to 18 manuscript submissions per year.
Communicate with authors and make final publication decisions.
Assign manuscripts to Editorial Board Members and to reviewers as needed for
review.
Recruit content as and when required (forum, supplements, individual articles)
Monitor Editorial Board Members.
Periodically, review the editorial board members, including to investigate board
member activity and assess contributions and participation in Journal discussion and
responsiveness to communication.
Provide extra support to board members handling a large number of submissions.
Create a collaborative community, which is engaged in creating an excellent Journal
with impactful research.
