The University seeks to appoint a Chief Risk Officer in line with International Standards and National compliance requirements. The Chief Risk Officer is essentially accountable for the overall risk management of the University; which includes the integration of risk concepts into the University’s strategic plan, risk identification and mitigation activities for effective decision making. This is a senior management position reporting to the Vice Chancellor.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Chief Risk Officer’s main principal accountabilities are to:
- Set up and lead a fully-fledged Risk Management Unit in the University which encompasses academic, management and administrative units and functions.
- Develop a Risk Management Policy for the University and direct its implementation and periodic review.
- Compile and manage an appropriate University Risk Register; together with regular risk reports to the Audit and Risk Committee.
- Work with the Audit and Risk Committees to ensure the identification, prioritization and management of risks, and to build a risk aware culture across the University.
- Formulate and monitor the implementation of risk management strategies and action plans, as well as supervising the University’s risk mitigation and identification procedures.
- Manage the University’s risk portfolio, including insurance and the identification, registration and eventual disposal of assets.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must have at least a Master’s Degree in Risk Management and Insurance, or equivalent and a Bachelor’s Degree in Risk Management and Insurance, or equivalent.
In addition, five (5) years of progressive relevant post-qualification working experience in Risk Management is a requirement.
Membership of a professional body is a distinct advantage.
The successful applicant must be highly ICT literate, possess risk management skills and be a holder of a clean class 4 drivers’ licence.
Furthermore, s/he must have knowledge of asset disposal procedures and other related processes.
