Tax Manager

Job purpose       

Develop taxation strategy for the Company in order to ensure that any tax leakages are kept to a minimum and the utmost levels of compliance to tax regulations are maintained throughout the Company’s operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reviews draft contracts and minutes of meetings outlining significant transactions that the Company intends to enter into such as acquisitions, mergers, disposals and other restructuring transactions and prepares opinions on the taxation implications of the intended transactions.
  • Researches on international best practice in tax planning schemes in the telecoms industry and recommends measures that can be taken by the Company to optimize its taxation outflows.
  • Reviews Budget Speeches and Mid-term Fiscal Policy reviews by the Minister of Finance and other Government publications and outlines the tax implications on the business of the Company of new policies announced.
  • Reviews the Company’s Income Tax, VAT, Withholding Tax , Customs Duty and PAYE processes on a monthly basis and ensures that the Company is compliant in as far as preparation and submission of applicable returns and payment of amounts due before due dates.
  • Ensures that the Company is furnished with a tax clearance certificate from ZIMRA for presentation to trading partners.
  • Carries out tax health checks to group entities to ensure compliance with tax legislation
  • Is the point person between the Company and the tax authorities, reviews queries raised by ZIMRA pertaining to the Company’s tax affairs and prepares letters of response to address the queries.
  • Assists in the appointment of tax consultants to advise the Company on the best approach to adopt in order to resolve matters of tax controversy.
  • Reviews the accounting treatment adopted for significant business transactions and recommends the most appropriate taxation treatment to be adopted by the Company.
  • Reviews the forecast income tax computation for the Company and ensures that the resultant tax amount is paid according to the quarterly payment dates.
  • Evaluates all training needs in the Group and coordinates training of staff.
  • Carries out ongoing evaluation of staff, identifying performance strengths and deficiencies and arranges for necessary coaching and training.

Qualification, Skills, and Experience

  • Chartered Accountant or equivalent.
  • Post graduate qualification (e.g., MBA /MSC) will be an advantage.
  • 6 to 8 years’ experience in a similar or related environment, with a minimum of 2 years in a Senior Management position.
