Tax Compliance Officer

Job Purpose  

Filing timely and accurate direct and indirect tax returns. Supports policies and procedures to promote continuous improvement in the tax process and ensures the utmost levels of compliance to tax regulations are maintained throughout the Company’s operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensures collection of information on VAT output and input to facilitate preparation of monthly VAT schedule and completion of VAT returns on e-filing.
  • Attending to suppliers’ requests for VAT WHT certificates.
  • Preparation and submission of all Rev 5 forms to ZIMRA.
  • Preparation and issuing of WHT on tenders certificates.
  • Application of foreign suppliers’ certificates to ZIMRA and issuing to suppliers.
  • Preparation of the Company’s Income tax, VAT, Withholding Tax, CGT and PAYE returns and ensures payment of amounts due before due dates.
  • Applies for and ensures that the Company is furnished with tax clearance certificates from ZIMRA for presentation to trading and other stakeholders and partners.
  • Ensures that customers’ queries are attended to in line with Service Level Agreements
  • Analyses tax issues and evaluates accuracy and appropriateness of tax reports before submission to ZIMRA.
  • Coordination of collection of information to facilitate preparation of Special Ensure Duty returns and submits to ZIMRA.
  • Manage external and internal auditors’ tax queries on certain tax issues.
  • Carry out tax training and awareness within the company.
  • Responds to queries raised by ZIMRA pertaining to the Company’s tax affairs on all direct and indirect taxes and prepares letters of response to address the queries.
  • Analyses any tax assessments from ZIMRA to ensure accuracy and proper treatment in terms of legislation.
  • Computing monthly income tax computations for management accounting purposes.
  • Review budget and forecast income tax computations.
  • Reconciles tax payments made to ZIMRA with ledger.

Qualification, Skills and Experience

  • Degree in Finance or Accounting or equivalent.
  • Post graduate qualification (e.g., MBA /MSC) will be an advantage.
  • 2 to 4 years’ experience in a similar or related environment covering all taxes including VAT, Excise duty, Income Tax and Capital Gains Tax.
  • A tax qualification will be an added advantage
  • Experience in the telecommunications industry will be an added advantage
