POST: SUB LIBRARIAN x2

DESCRIPTION
The primary role of the Sub-Librarian is to provide library services and resources to staff and students and support teaching and learning, research, and innovation. The Sub-Librarian will also develop and manage collections that are relevant to the University’s academic program curriculums. They will also oversee the Library’s operations and engage in scholarly and professional activities to enhance the Library’s services.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
MSc Degree in Library & Information Science and an undergraduate degree in Library and Information Science.
OR MSc degree in Library and Information Science and any other undergraduate degree plus a Higher National Diploma in Library and Information Science.
At least two (2) years post-qualification experience in a University Library at the Assistant/ Senior Assistant Librarian Level.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Guide Bibliographic Description, Metadata Creation, Materials Preservation, and Resource Discovery.
Oversee the implementation of national and international bibliographic control standards such as Resource Description and Access (RDA) and OCLC.
Assist in revising the Library’s internal controls.
Manage risks in the Sections under Supervision.
Provide reference and research assistance to staff and students, including creating research guides and offering instruction on information literacy skills.
Develop and maintain the Library collection including selecting materials, and weeding out outdated or irrelevant materials.
Manage the Library’s services and operations, including overseeing the circulation desk, managing interlibrary loans, and overseeing the Library’s physical spaces.
Engage in professional and scholarly activities to enhance the Library’s services, including participating in library-related committees.
Conduct user surveys.
Identify and recommend new technologies in line with current Library and Information Services Field trends.
Ensure adherence to set policies and standard operating procedures in the Section under supervision.
Actively participating in community engagement activities for the Library.

SKILLS REQUIRED
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with staff, and students.
Strong knowledge of library resources and information literacy instruction.
Familiarity with library technologies and systems, including integrated library systems and electronic resource management systems.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Management and supervisory skills.
In-depth appreciation of information and digital skills literacy is a prerequisite.
Demonstrate a very good understanding of Education 5.0 and broad knowledge and expertise in achieving user satisfaction.
Strong interpersonal skills.
