Job Overview:
The Small-Scale Open Cast Mine Manager/Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the daily
operations of a small-scale open cast mining project. This role involves planning, coordinating,
and managing all mining activities to ensure efficient and safe extraction of minerals. The
manager/coordinator will ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental policies,
and production targets.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Operational Management:
Plan and oversee the daily mining operations, ensuring that production targets
are met.
Coordinate with various departments (e.g., drilling, blasting, hauling) to
streamline operations.
Monitor and optimize the use of equipment and resources.
2. Safety and Compliance:
Implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working
environment.
Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal mining regulations.
3. Resource Management:
Manage and supervise the workforce, including miners, equipment operators,
and support staff.
Train employees on safe and efficient mining practices.
Schedule and oversee maintenance and repairs of mining equipment.
4. Environmental Management:
Implement and monitor environmental management plans to minimize the
environmental impact of mining activities.
Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and reporting requirements.
5. Financial and Budget Management:
Prepare and manage the mining budget, including cost control and financial
planning.
Monitor expenditures and optimize operational costs.
6. Reporting and Documentation:
Prepare and present regular reports on production, safety, and financial
performance.
Maintain accurate records of mining activities, equipment usage, and safety
incidents.
7. Stakeholder Engagement:
Liaise with government officials, regulatory bodies, and community
representatives as needed.
Address and resolve any issues or concerns from stakeholders related to mining
activities.
8. Continuous Improvement:
Identify opportunities for improving mining processes and efficiency.
Implement new technologies and methods to enhance productivity and safety.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, Geology, or a related field. A master’s
degree is a plus
Minimum of 5 years of experience in mining operations, with at least 2 years in
a supervisory or managerial role.
Experience in open cast mining is highly preferred.
Strong leadership and management skills.
Excellent knowledge of mining equipment and operational procedures.
Proficiency in safety and environmental regulations.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Working Conditions:
• Must be willing to work in remote locations and under challenging conditions.
• Requires physical fitness and the ability to work in outdoor environments.
• May require working extended hours, including weekends and holidays.
