Shipping & Travel Assistant || US Embassy

Duties
Reporting to the Shipping and Travel Supervisor, this position facilitates the complete clearing and forwarding procedure of documents to effect delivery of import-export shipments through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zimbabwe Revenue Authority, and other appropriate interlocutors.
The incumbent ensures compliance with all local governmental policies, the Foreign Affairs Manual, and other agency regulations and procedures for all import and export shipments.
The Shipping Assistant also facilitates the registration and deregistration process of motor vehicles, as well as the licensing process for all official vehicles.
This position will also advise personnel of entitlements, which differ across a wide variety of travel situations.

Qualifications and Evaluations
Requirements:
EXPERIENCE:
Three years of progressively responsible experience in shipping, travel, transportation, or a closely related field such as the customer service or purchasing field.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Effective communication and customer service skills are required. Must have good working knowledge of office administration and strong typing skills. Excellent knowledge of sea and air shipment routings, as well as a strong knowledge of customs and shipping regulations are required.
Education Requirements:
Completion of secondary school is required.
Evaluations:

LANGUAGE:
Level IV English (reading, writing and speaking) is required.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to type at least 40 wpm. Basic computer applications, (MS Office Suite), and database management is essential. Must be able to prioritize and organize workload effectively, work under minimum supervision, and have excellent interpersonal skills. Must illustrate a proven ability to meet deadlines under stressful conditions and take constructive feedback. Familiarity with the internet and its functionality is required. Valid Zimbabwean (or acceptable alternative) driver’s license is required. Must have tact when dealing with government officials, embassy personnel, and shipping/industry partners.

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Harare may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.
For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.
The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.

The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service. Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.

This level of preference applies to all Foreign Service employees on LWOP and CS with re-employment rights back to their agency or bureau.
