The main objective of the role is to align strategy, capital, processes, people and technology in order to evaluate and manage business opportunities, uncertainties and threats in a structured, disciplined manner, ensuring that risks and their implications are considered when making strategic and operational decisions. The Risk Officer is responsible for conducting risk management operations of the University, to include the integration of risk concepts into strategic planning, and risk identification and mitigation activities.
Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidates shall be responsible for:
Providing risk training to all University departments;
Undertaking a comprehensive risk assessment for all University departments;
Maintenance of University Risk Registers & ensuring departments have updated registers;
Formulating and recommending risk mitigation plans, policies and protocols;
Championing the compilation and review of University’s Strategic Risk register;
Designing the risk Matrix for the University;
Managing and administering the University’s insurance portfolio including filing of insurance claims and ensuring payments thereon;
Quantifying risk limits and recommending plans to mitigate risks;
University Health and Safety administration;
Monitoring the progress of risk mitigation activities;
Compiling quarterly risk management reports;
Evaluating and monitoring risk management strategies identified within the organization;
Any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience
A Bachelors’ degree in Risk Management/Insurance/Economics;
A Masters’ degree would be an added advantage;
Must have a high level of written and oral communication skills as well as strong knowledge of business processes;
Strong analytical skills and ability to effectively prioritise and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously;
Strong ability to work effectively in a team and to communicate verbally and in writing with both external and internal customers;
Ability to work independently to produce desired results;
At least two (2) years’ experience in risk management position.
