Position Summary
The Research Nurse (Midwife) will be working for a multi-centre clinical study to evaluate the feasibility and performance of the Genital InFlammation Test (GIFT) – Comparing a novel point-of-care (POC) cytokine biomarker lateral flow test – with nucleic acid amplification tests (NAATs) for detection of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and Nugent scoring for bacterial vaginosis (BV). The Research Nurse will be responsible for conducting gynecological examinations and STI management.

Key Responsibilities
•Perform gynaecological examinations
•Record study participants medical history
•Provide HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) pre and post counselling
•Collection of vaginal swab samples from study participants
•Perform point of care tests

•Provide treatment for STIs
•Making sure all commodities are available for use in the field every morning
•Making sure that all data is submitted every day
•Attend weekly and all other regular meetings with the study team
•Follow protocol and standard operating procedures
•Complete all protocol forms
•To carry out other tasks appropriate to the post, as determined by the study coordinator

Person Specification
•A diploma in General Nursing with at least five years post-basic experience
•A post graduate diploma in maternal and child health or midwifery
•A current practicing certificate.
•At least 2 years’ experience in a midwifery role or similar.
•Experience in conducting HIV testing and counselling is required.
•Experience in conducting STI syndromic management is required
•Able to work under minimal supervision
•Attention to detail and good problem-solving and record-keeping skills
