Job Description

Position Summary

The Research Assistant (RA) is a member of the Strategic Information, Evaluation, and Learning (SIEL) team and works under the direct supervision of the Knowledge Management Advisor. Key responsibilities include searching and applying for research and implementation science consultancy opportunities, research funding proposal development, as well as design and implementation of operational research. The RA will support development of research data management tools, recruitment and deployment of research data collectors, data collection and supervision, data cleaning and analysis, and report writing.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the continuous scouting for research and implementation science consultancy opportunities in print and electronic platforms.
  • Assist with application of the research and implementation science consultancy decision matrix for all funding opportunities and proceed if the minimum threshold is surpassed.
  • Develop draft research consultancy concept notes and share with supervisor for review.
  • Support development of research proposals, data collection tools, consent forms and other regulatory documents,
  • Assist with the submission of study protocols to ethics committees for review and approval.
  • Support development of study work plans, budgets, and standard operational procedures (SOP).
  • Support recruitment (as necessary), training and deployment of data collectors.
  • Research data collection, cleaning, transcription, analysis and storage.
  • Assist with the implementation of research data quality assurance initiatives.
  • Develop draft study reports, slide decks, conference abstracts and manuscripts.
  • Ensure compliance with ZHI, national and international guidelines and ethics governing implementation of human subjects’ research.
  • Support dissemination of research results utilizing existing platforms.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree in public health, biostatistics, or demography with at least 2 years of experience in the design and implementation of research.
  • Competence and proven experience in design and implementation of quantitative and qualitative research.
  • Proficiency in use of statistical packages such as STATA, SPSS, Epi-Infor for data management and analysis.
  • Ability to work independently (coordinate implementation of research project with minimal supervision).
  • Excellent communication skills (documentation, report writing, presentations, proposal writing and publications).
