PUBLIC RELATION OFFICER
JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of the Public Relations Officer is to implement communication strategies that build and protect the public image of the Zimbabwe Media Commission. The role focuses on developing and executing public relations initiatives, managing media relations, driving stakeholder engagement, and providing expert communication support across the Commission’s programmes and activities.Zimbabwean jobs
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Initiate, develop and execute public relations and communication strategies that align with the Commission’s mandate and objectives.
- Serve as the key liaison for all media and public communication, ensuring clear, consistent, and timely messaging.
- Plan and manage communication activities for Commission events, programmes, and stakeholder engagements.
- Facilitate crisis communication planning and response efforts to safeguard the Commission’s reputation.
- Design and implement advertising, promotional, and publicity campaigns to enhance public awareness of the Commission’s work.
- Draft, review, and disseminate press releases, statements, speeches, and communication materials.
- Monitor and analyse media coverage, public sentiment, and emerging issues to inform communication strategies.
- Manage the Commission’s online presence, including website updates and social media content creation and scheduling.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with journalists, media organisations, government entities, and civil society.
- Produce high-quality multimedia content (videos, infographics, photography) to support communication goals.
- Provide communication guidance to departments to ensure alignment with public messaging and corporate identity.
- Represent the Commission at public forums, media briefings, and stakeholder engagements as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
- A diploma in Public Relations, Communication, or a related field is required.
- A degree in Public Relations, Media, Journalism, or a related field is strongly preferred.
- A minimum of two (2) years of hands-on experience in public relations, communication, or media engagement.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills across multiple formats (print, digital, video).
- Solid knowledge of the media environment and public communication practices in Zimbabwe.Zimbabwean jobs
- Proficiency in using media monitoring tools, social media platforms, and content management systems.
- Graphic design and multimedia production skills (e.g. Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) are highly desirable.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal, stakeholder engagement, and presentation skills.
- Sound judgment and discretion in handling sensitive communication issues.
