About
Zimbabwe Health Interventions (ZHI) is a not-for-profit human development organisation which is registered as a Private Voluntary Organisation (PVO 17/22). ZHI’s mission is to develop and deliver innovative and sustainable high-impact, integrated health interventions to the communities we serve, while working with and strengthening existing institutions.
The Determined, Resilient, Empowered, AIDS-free, Mentored, and Safe women (DREAMS)-Reignite Innovate Sustain and Empower (RISE) Program aims to prevent new HIV infections and reduce vulnerability among Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVC), OVC caregivers and Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) in Zimbabwe. The DREAMS-RISE program is being implemented in priority high HIV burden districts in Zimbabwe. ZHI’s primary role is to deliver a comprehensive curriculum on HIV prevention, gender norms and social asset building targeted at AGYW in school, out of school and their sexual partners at community level. ZHI’s core thrust in the DREAMS-RISE Program is to keep girls and young women HIV Free through supporting them to; Stay in school; Prevent early pregnancies; Prevent sexual violence; Access Post violence care; Reduce child marriage. DREAMS-RISE program provides a comprehensive, multi-sectoral package of core interventions to address key factors that make girls and young women particularly vulnerable to HIV. These include structural factors, such as gender-based violence, exclusion from economic opportunities, and a lack of access to secondary school. DREAMS-RISE program layers multiple interventions at once so that AGYW are surrounded with critical support to keep them safe from HIV and other risks.
Basic Function
The Program Communications Associate will support the design, implementation and monitoring of the Re-Ignite, Innovate, Sustain and Empower (RISE) program communication and advocacy interventions. The incumbent will be responsible for creating compelling and engaging content that reinforces the reputation of Zimbabwe Health Interventions (ZHI) and effectively communicates the RISE program performance, achievements, successes, and impact to the donor, beneficiaries, like-minded partner organizations, and the public. This incumbent will work closely with Business Development and Stakeholder Engagement Director (BDSED) and ZHI RISE project leadership.
Job Description
Support the implementation and monitoring of the program communication strategy by coordinating and handling the overall communications and advocacy portfolio, including building relationships with local as well as international media; In liaison with the program team, develop, write, and edit communication, media and marketing products (i.e. fact sheets, program reports/briefs, website content, newsletters, brochures, blogs, success stories, etc.) for dissemination to various program audience; Create compelling and engaging content that reinforces the reputation of Zimbabwe Health Interventions (ZHI) and effectively communicates its program performance, achievements, successes, and impact to the public; Develop working relationships with journalists in different media outlets and facilitate regular program-related interviews with media personnel for communicating program achievements to key stakeholders/audiences; Ensure that all the RISE program communications products/materials are aligned to the approved program branding and marking plan; Maintain the program digital media archive (photos and videos) in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures; Increase program, donor and ZHI visibility by creating, developing and managing content for social media platforms and ZHI website; Support the translation of programmatic evidence-based materials and hard data and beneficiary stories into compelling human impactful stories / narratives; Photograph/ film and edit visual content that documents program activities; Manage the ZHI social media platforms, drive and monitor growth and engagement across relevant social media platforms; Support the planning and coordination of in-person and online events including program launches, public discussions, webinars and conferences, exhibitions, awareness and demand generation campaign and events; Maintain a calendar of key dates and events of local, national, and regional significance to the ZHI projects, which may require communications support; Support the preparation and updating of the program’s standard information package for distribution to the public, media, and stakeholders.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Knowledge and experience in communications related to international public health and/or development; Well versed in health, HIV, TB, STI and GBV programming; Articulate, professional and be able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with internal and external stakeholders; Outstanding information gathering skills and good analytical skills to produce well-presented reports and publications; Highly responsive to internal and external communications requests; Skilled in presenting information to different audiences, including media; Proven writing skills, editing, design, videography, or photography skills a must; Demonstrated skill in program communication, development of information and marketing/visibility products; Self-starter, proactive, strategic thinker, and possess strong negotiation skills for the purpose of soliciting cooperation; Meticulous attention to detail, ability to work well under pressure, and meeting deadlines; Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced environment; Computer skills (MS Office applications, databases, online collaboration platforms, email, and internet). Video and audio editing skills is preferred; Demonstrated experience in planning and coordinating events; Ability to travel to implementation districts, a minimum of 50%.
Qualifications And Experience
Degree in Media and Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations or a closely related discipline; A minimum of 2 years relevant experience; Demonstrated experience in communication, writing, editing, and publications; Experience in networking, media, and public policy formulation is ideal; Broad experience of HIV prevention, care, and treatment programming is preferred; Experience working in public health/international development programs funded by US government or other international donors is an added advantage; Experience in working and managing relations with multiple projects and stakeholders; Strong understanding of the development context in Zimbabwe, and communication needs of donors such as USAID is an added advantage.
