WORKS AND INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT

PRINCIPAL SHE OFFICER (1 POST)
Ensure the University has vibrant and robust occupational health and safety policies and procedures that comply with relevant legislation and national policies and regulations for the improvement of occupational health and safety performance within the University.

Duties and Responsibilities

Ensure a clean and safe internal and external environment.
Conduct systematic and comprehensive safety and health inspections of University facilities.
Ensuring that the University environment and all its campuses meet health, safety and environmental standards for teaching and learning in and outside buildings.
Conduct health and safety risk assessments in liaison with the University’s Risk Officer and ensure that remedial measures are implemented in compliance with relevant legislation.
Record, and investigate incidents to determine causes, recommend remedial action and handle worker’s compensation claims in liaison with the regulatory authority (NSSA).
Provide and where appropriate facilitate training in relation to safety, health and environment as and when required.
Participate in meetings and committees relating to safety health and environment as and when required.
Advice on Safety, Health and Environment related issues.
Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Desired Qualifications and Experience0
Applicants should be holders of BSc Honours in Geography and Environmental Studies/Environmental Science or equivalent plus MSc in Safety, Health and Environmental Management or equivalent.
At least four (4) years experience as a SHE Officer or equivalent position. In addition, OSHEMAC or equivalent professional qualification is a requirement.
