Do you want to be part of a dynamic non-profit building Africa’s digital future? Are you a tech-savvy systems administrator with a passion for education and youth empowerment? Young Africa needs you!

Headquartered in Zimbabwe, with operations across Southern Africa, Young Africa International is an entrepreneurial NGO that empowers young people through technical and life skills training. We believe in skills with a future: from trades and entrepreneurship to digital literacy and eLearning. Through our Digital Vocational Education and Training for Young Africans (D-VETYA) project, we’ve developed two flagship digital platforms to extend our impact—and we’re looking for someone to help manage and grow them.

About the Role

We’re looking for a technically skilled and self-driven Platform Administrator to manage two critical digital platforms:

  • The Post-Graduate Support Toolbox (PGST) – built on Laravel and React Native, providing graduates with resources for employment and entrepreneurship.
  • The Young Africa eLearning Platform (YAeLP) – built on Moodle, offering a wide range of training courses across multiple countries.

This role ensures both platforms are secure, functional, scalable, and continuously improving to serve our learners and teams across Africa.

What will you do?

You’ll manage the backend of both platforms, keeping them up to date, user-friendly, and aligned with programme goals. You’ll troubleshoot issues, support mobile app deployment, maintain security, and lead technical improvements.

You’ll also collaborate closely with trainers and content developers to support the adaptation and upload of training content on the Moodle platform, ensuring a smooth user experience, mobile compatibility, and instructional quality.

Your Tasks

  • Maintain and update the PGST platform (built in Laravel and React Native)
  • Manage the backend of the Moodle-based YAeLP
  • Monitor system performance and implement security best practices
  • Customise UI/UX and support app publishing (Apple/Google)
  • Collaborate with trainers and content developers to adapt and upload educational content in Moodle
  • Troubleshoot platform errors and document solutions
  • Generate analytics and reports
  • Ensure secure data handling and platform reliability
  • Collaborate with remote developers for system improvements and with programme staff to align platform functionality with training goals

What We Offer

  • A purpose-driven role at the intersection of technology and education
  • A supportive and international team environment
  • Flexibility to work from the YA Hub in Harare or remotely
  • Opportunity to contribute to system sustainability and long-term impact
  • A competitive salary based on qualifications and experience
  • A full-time, renewable 12-month contract

Who Are We Looking For?

  • A degree in Computer ScienceIT, or a related field. Those with a masters degree in these fields will have an added advantage.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing digital platforms or backend systems
  • Proficient in:
    • LaravelReact Native, and Moodle
    • PHPMySQLLinux serversGit
  • Familiar with SCORM/xAPI, GDPR, and accessibility standards
  • Strong project management, problem-solving, communication, and team skills
