Job Purpose
The Quality Controller is responsible for the overall quality of packed product, its post- harvest handling prior to shipping out or dispatching of bananas.
Reports to: The Quality Assurance Manager
Major Functions/Accountabilities
To manage the Quality Assurance for the specific packhouse
To take responsibility for quality for that packhouse
To aim for the achievement of premium export product through producing corrective
action for the non- compliant activities in the pack -shed and bring them to compliance.
To be responsible for hygiene compliance in the packhouse
To report on the current state of the grading of bananas following the standard operating procedure
and to control waste.
Produce daily and weekly written – reports on quality in the pack-house
Do physical inspection and monitoring of all the resources used at the pack shed for cleanliness and
conformance to the required standard, state of the pallets, crates, bulk bins, and boxes.
To ensure and maintain the correct mixes of post-harvest chemicals for each day.
To keep the highest degree of hygiene at the pack-shed and cold rooms all the time as processing is
taking place.
To ensure adherence to all SOPs from offloading to the point fruit is ready for dispatch making sure
every granular detail is followed.
Ensuring graded fruit is taken to Cold Store as soon as it is completed being packed and strapped.
To monitor and audit all cold rooms temperatures for compliance according to Standard.
Ensuring that all areas of work, of the Pack shed are tidy and the highest degree of orderliness is
achieved.
To audit the execution and timing of each operation in the plantation lands to produce the best bananas
pre – harvest,
To provide training on aligning the SOPs and the operations being undertaken by operators.
To mentor and guide and provide training to the resources on quality matters on packhouse where and when needed.
To engage with management, section managers, supervisors, and foreman on a continuous basis
To provide input on SOP’s and SIC ‘s
To report to the Quality Manager on a weekly basis regarding weeks performance.
To report disciplinary issues to relevant manager when needed.
To assist the QA Manager on all Global Gap issues, document control and actions.

Salary: Negotiable
Location: Matanuska -Burma Valley (1), CBC / Matanuska – Chipinge (1)
Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ relevant Quality experience,
Experience in quality handling of fruit or vegetables an added advantage.
Knowledge of Global Gap and having experience will be an added advantage.
Qualifications
A minimum of 5 O’ Levels including English, Agriculture &(Mathematics optional), advanced Level education is an advantage,
A Diploma or a national certificate in Agriculture/ Horticulture will be added advantage.

Overall quality performance of the pack shed 90 % Compliance to Standards
