OPERATIONAL RISK SPECIALIST – INSURANCE CLUSTER

The role – what we expect from you:
- Review operational risk frameworks in line with changes to the business operating environment.
- Oversee changes to policy and procedure manuals.
- Inculcate a shared operational risk culture across the Group.
- Lead the implementation the operational risk framework across the Group.
- Review independent risk assessments on new products and ventures.
- Advise management on key operational risk drivers for the Group.
- Oversee implementation of risk and control self-assessments (RCSA) for the Insurance Cluster.
- Ensure that operational risk governance committees meet to review progress on operational risk identification and mitigation.
- Lead the coordination of the Group’s Business Continuity Management Program.
- Oversee implementation of Risk Event Management Escalation processes.
- Review operational risk reports and ensure that comprehensive operational risk reports are presented to all relevant governance structures of the Group.
- Lead internal control review and validation processes across the Group.
- Use leading indicators and metrics to identify areas of potential and emerging risk.
- Engage and coordinate with specialists from other second line of defense functions.
- Build relationships across the business to establish a collaborative environment.
- Offer advise on gaps identified in operational risk management impacting the Group risk profile.
- Lead research on current international trends and developments on operational risk management.
- Maintain a network of external contacts within the risk industry.
- Submit risk management reports that support operational risk monitoring and decision-making.
- Guide the Group on operational risk trends internally and externally and proffer mitigants to business units.
- Submit input into compilation of Board Committee report packs on a quarterly basis.
- Engage Loss Control and Security in compiling fraud reports and risk awareness material.
- Liaise with Loss Control on operational risk losses investigations and recommendations to manage recurrence of loss events.
- Build and maintain a dynamic and competent team that delivers on objectives
- Set performance objectives and targets for subordinates and assist subordinates to achieve set targets.
- Manage subordinates’ knowledge and skills development for continuous improvement and succession planning.
- Undertake any other duties, tasks, assignments and projects as may be delegated/assigned by management from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and experience required
- Undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, business or any related field.
- A recognized professional qualification or certification.
- At least 5 years working in the banking or financial services sector.
- Enterprise Risk Management.
- Financial Management.
- Data analytics and reporting.
- People leadership.
- Project management.
- Strong verbal and written communication.
