Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) is an autonomous parastatal under the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. It is an internationally accredited examinations board. ZIMSEC is an examinations board responsible for assessment, evaluation and documentation of the academic readiness, learning progress, and skill acquisition of students at primary and secondary school levels in Zimbabwe. The Council is inviting suitably qualified and motivated persons for the above-mentioned vacant position that has risen.
The purpose of job is to develop high quality educational assessment instruments, evaluation and monitoring of all assessment activities in order to operationalise innovations for quality assessment and performance measurement of specific special needs group(s) of learners underpinned on the principles of inclusivity, equity, equalisation of opportunities, rights, justice, fairness and flexibility.
DUTIES
Participate as data collector during researches in the field of Special needs that relate to comprehensive assessment of these learners and assist in the analysis of the data as well as report writing.
Operationalise the required modifications, alternative assessments and exemptions to be made by Item Writers and Subject managers in each specific group of special needs.
Assist in supervising the modification processes in specific special needs areas.
Provide expert guidance pertaining to assessment provisions, special arrangements and consideration for learners with special needs to examinations centres.
Monitor and evaluate item writing to ensure that items are developed with learners under their jurisdiction in mind so as to make sure the diverse needs of those learners are met.
Assist with supervision of the marking process to ensure that marking is done with empathy and not sympathy for candidates with diverse needs within their portfolio.
Supervise the transcription processes required in the specific fields of special needs learners for mainstream examiners.
Provide expert guidance in the training of special needs
Pilot testing and pre – testing assessment instruments.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor of Special Needs Education
Master of Science Degree in Special Needs Education is an added advantage.
Braille and Sign Language
Diploma in Special Needs
Diploma in Education
