DESCRIPTION:
POST: LIBRARY IT MANAGER
The incumbent will function as the Information Technology Manager and expert technology analyst, responsible for executing, coordinating and supervising library ICT service projects. These include systems development, management and administration, systems engineering and integration, server administration, systems operation and maintenance, configuration management, hardware/software support and upgrades and staff support and training.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Ø BSc in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent.
Ø A Masters Degree in any of the above is a requirement.
Ø Must have at least 5 years’ experience in a supervisory role of Software Development.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ø Planning and overseeing the implementation of all ICT projects in the Library.
Ø Manage the lifecycle of library technology systems, including implementation, maintenance, and upgrades, to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
Ø Manage the scheduling and planning of accepted digital projects, including timelines, interdependencies, deadlines, and resources required.
Ø Facilitate project meetings and monitor project status, providing project updates and progress reports, and troubleshooting any challenges that arise.
Ø Oversee the administration, maintenance, and optimisation of critical library software applications that include the Integrated Library Management System (Koha), the Digital Library platform and others.
Ø Ensure the continuous monitoring and evaluation of system performance, while maintaining strict adherence to national and organisational security policies, standards, and regulatory requirements.
Ø Ensure data integrity, security, and backups for all library IT systems.
Ø Develop and implement robust network infrastructure to ensure seamless connectivity and accessibility of digital resources.
Ø Provide technical support to library staff and users, addressing hardware and software issues promptly.
Ø Develop and conduct training programs for library staff to enhance their proficiency in utilising digital tools and resources.
Ø Develop and maintain documentation and training materials for IT systems and procedures.
Ø Foster collaboration with other departments to integrate technology seamlessly into library services.
Ø Contribute to the development of the library’s IT strategy, aligning technology initiatives with the overall mission and goals of the institution.
Ø Identify emerging technologies and trends relevant to library services and recommend their integration where applicable.
Ø Supervise and mentor Library IT staff, fostering a collaborative and customer-focused work environment.
Ø Conduct regular performance evaluations, set goals, and provide professional development opportunities.
Ø Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the IT team.
SKILLS REQUIRED
Ø A high level of technical expertise and broad knowledge of hardware and software applications.
Ø Excellent analytical skills.
Ø Proficiency in using modern database management systems such as Mysql and Navicat.
Ø Working knowledge of a wide variety of programming languages such as Python, C++ and PHP.
Ø Familiarity with library technologies and systems, including integrated library systems and electronic resource management systems.
Ø Working knowledge of mobile applications development.
Ø Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with staff, and students.
Ø Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
