ROLE PROFILE.
AFC Commercial Bank, a subsidiary of AFC Holdings seeks to recruit a Legal Services Manager. Reporting to the Company Secretary, the Legal Services Manager will be responsible for providing advice on the laws and regulations governing the Bank’s business and its procedures, as well as monitoring compliance on a regular basis. The role also contributes to the Bank’s drive to proactively manage legal risks.
Duties and Responsibilities
Providing leadership within the Legal team to comply with the highest standards of regulatory and business conduct and practices as defined by internal and external requirements. Providing legal opinion in respect of matters affecting the bank in liaison with the Company
Secretary. Reviewing all contracts which come up for renewal as specifically delegated by the Company Secretary.
Conducting research in respect of governance matters and keeping abreast of emerging governance trends and developments.
Co-ordinating the preparation and submission of papers from business stakeholders; taking and
transcribing minutes; tracking matters arising from meetings and liaising with relevant business
stakeholders where action is required.
Assisting the Company Secretary to come up with the board calendar, and induction of board members as well as coordinating Management Committee or Executive Committee meetings. Tracking the progress of outstanding litigation and liaising with external lawyers on all legal matters.
Job Skills and Competencies
Ability to maintain discretion with confidential or sensitive information.
An excellent understanding of Corporate Governance.
Exceptional organisational skills with very strong attention to detail.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor of Laws Degree.
A relevant postgraduate qualification such as Master of Laws/MBA or equivalent is desirable and
an added advantage.
At least 5 years’ legal experience in practice or in a financial services environment.
A member of the Law Society of Zimbabwe.
