LECTURESHIP/SENIOR LECTURESHIP/ASSOCIATE PROFESSORSHIP (3 POSTS)
Institute of Development Studies
POST A: DEVELOPMENT THEORY, POLICY AND PRACTICE/SOCIAL
DEVELOPMENT
Applicants must possess at least a Master’s Degree in Development Studies, Sociology or their equivalents
from a recognised university. They should also hold a good honours degree in Development Studies,
Sociology or any humanitarian related field. A PhD in the above mentioned areas will be an added
advantage.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach the following courses to postgraduate students;
Development Theory, Policy and Practice, and
Social and Political Change in Developing countries.
In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to supervise postgraduate dissertations and provide
academic leadership and guide the Institute in promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, business
development, organisational effectiveness and community engagement. Applicants with extensive research
experience, independently or as a team in any humanitarian project will have an added advantage.
POST B: GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS(GIS)/ URBAN AND DISASTER
RISK MANAGEMENT
Applicants must possess at least a Master’s Degree in Geography or Geographical Information systems (GIS)
and Earth Observation from a recognised university. They should also hold a good honours degree in
Geography or Geographical Information Systems and Earth Observation. A PhD in the above mentioned
areas will be an added advantage.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach the following courses to postgraduate students;
GIS for Disaster Risk Management /GIS for Development Studies and
Urban and Disaster Risk Management
In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to supervise postgraduate dissertations and provide
academic leadership and guide the Institute in promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, business
development, organisational effectiveness and community engagement. Applicants with extensive research
experience, independently or as a team in any humanitarian project will have an added advantage.
POST C: RESEARCH METHODS
Applicants must possess at least a Master’s Degree in Development Studies, Sociology, Operations Research
or their equivalents from a recognised university. They should also hold a good honours degree in
Development Studies, Sociology, Operations Research or any humanitarian related field. A PhD in the
above mentioned areas will be an added advantage.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach the following courses to postgraduate students;
Research Methods
Management of Development Institutions and Programmes
In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to supervise postgraduate dissertations and provide
academic leadership and guide the Institute in promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, business
development, organisational effectiveness and community engagement. Applicants with extensive research
experience, independently or as a team in any humanitarian project will have an added advantage.
RESEARCH FELLOW (1 POST)
Institute of Development Studies
Applicants must possess at least a Master’s Degree in Development Studies, Demography and Population
Studies, Sociology, Geography or their equivalents from a recognised university. They should also hold a
good honours degree in Development Studies, Demography and Population Studies. Sociology, Geography
or any humanitarian related field. A PhD in the above mentioned areas will be an added advantage.
The successful candidate will be amongst other things expected to teach postgraduate students in Migration and Development and periodically write grant winning project proposals. Forge partnerships and networks to
advance the Institute’s research activities.
In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to supervise postgraduate dissertations and provide
academic leadership and guide the Institute in promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, business
development, organisational effectiveness and community engagement. Applicants with extensive research
experience, independently or as a team in any humanitarian project will have an added advantage.
