OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
Launched in 2018, the O3 Program “Our Rights, Our Lives, Our Future” aims to improve the education, health and well-being of adolescents and young people in sub-Saharan Africa and strengthen gender equality. The goal is to enable adolescents and young people to achieve positive sexual and reproductive health outcomes through a sustained reduction in new HIV infections, early and unintended pregnancies, and gender-based violence.
The objectives of the program are:
Secure and sustain strong political commitment and support for adolescents’ and young people’s access to comprehensive sexuality education and sexual and reproductive health services across sub-Saharan Africa.
Support the delivery of accurate, rights-based and good quality comprehensive sexuality education programmes that provide knowledge, values, and skills essential for safer behaviours, reduced adolescent pregnancy, and gender equality.
Ensure that schools and community environments are safer, healthier, and inclusive for all young people.
Strengthen the evidence base on comprehensive sexuality education and safer school environments.
Long Description
To achieve this, the O3 program aims to create an enabling environment for sexuality education, improve access to sexuality education through digital solutions, respond to gender-based violence in schools and promote healthy, safe and inclusive school and community environments. With this in mind, the consultant will contribute to the digital and communication advocacy activities of the O3 Program, including activities aimed at creating an environment favourable to health education in the ESA Region.
CONSULTANCY SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Regional Education for Health and Well-being Advisor, the Consultant assists the Education for Health and Well-being Unit in programme implementation, coordination, administration, planning, monitoring and evaluation. Specifically s/he will contribute to the following objectives:
Support the visibility of the O3 Programme:
Support digital and advocacy related to the creation of an enabling environment for health education
Contribute to the organization of O3 Program events, including high-level regional events
Support any other activity as needed
Roles and Responsibilities of the Consultant
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CONSULTANT
The consultant would work closely with the CSE Digital specialist and Communication officer from the EHW Regional team and he/she is expected to deliver the following tasks:
Support the Digital Specialist on design and development of CSE mobile apps (Future+; OwnU; Buzzer, etc), specifically;
Support regular maintenance of mobile applications
Support Digital Specialist on conceptualization, development and expansion of WhatsApp chatbots (Dzidzo paDen | Imfundwe’ndlini; Kuphunzira paDen etc) specifically:
Conceptualization of new and expansion of existing WhatsApp chatbots
Implementation of structural changes and updates to existing WhatsApp chatbots
Regular maintenance of chatbots
Support web administrative and design tasks under the guidance of Digital and Communications Specialists, specifically:
Website maintenance and update of CSE Regional Learning Platform (RLP), Young People Today, and Let’s Talk EUP websites
Maintain content within the RLP LMS by creating and uploading approved modules and courses, granting access and role-based user permissions, updating course content, and running reports
Assist with the backend for the UNESCO CSE Community of Practice
Support Digital and Communications Specialists on Social Media specifically;
Assist with the design and execution of social media campaigns (Young People Today, Let’s Talk EUP; etc)
Contribute to the development of new strategies for increasing engagement
Track social media engagement to identify high-performing ideas and campaigns for scalability
Support Digital and Communications Specialists on Digital Content Creation specifically:
Brainstorm and research ideas for original content and develop the content
Assist with photography during live events and help create and edit short-form videos
Support on EHW Unit events specifically:
Support the program, communications, and IT teams at face-to-face and online events
Other tasks as assigned

A mid-term and end-of-term Consultantship report detailing how the objectives of the Consultantship program were achieved.
Specific program outputs related to the time the consultantship is taken up.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree or a Master’s degree in Computer Science; Information Technology, Informatics, Communication, marketing or related
Understanding of traditional media and new digital communication tools and Knowledge Comprehensive Sexuality Education
Mastery of communication tool production software such as Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator or Canva.
Very good command of English with excellent writing skills.
Working knowledge of a local language is a plus
Computer proficiency as well as proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
