Job Title: Hotel Manager/Hotel General Manager
Job Location: Harare

Background
A local Hotel seeks the services of a Hotel Manager to support the function of the newly
renovated Hotel.

Purpose of the position
The Hotel manager will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the hotel, provide
strategic direction, plan and supervise the activities of an extensive and diverse workforce to
ensure the smooth and profitable running of business.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Oversee the operations functions of the hotel, as per the organogram.
• Ensure full compliance to hotel operating controls, SOP’s, policies, procedures and service
standards.
• Lead all key property issues including capital projects, customer service and refurbishment.
• Handling complaints, and oversee the service recovery procedures.
• Responsible for the preparation, presentation and subsequent achievement of the hotel’s
annual Operating Budget, Marketing & Sales Plan and Capital Budget.
• Manage on-going profitability of the hotel, ensuring revenue and guest satisfaction targets
are met and exceeded.
• Ensure all decisions are made in the best interest of the hotels and management.
• Deliver hotel budget goals and set other short and long term strategic goals for the
property.

• Developing improvement actions, carry out costs savings.
• A strong understanding of P&L statements and the ability to react with impactful strategies.
• Closely monitor the hotels business reports on a daily basis and take decisions accordingly.
• Ensure that monthly financial outlooks for Rooms, Food & Beverage, Admin & General
are on target and accurate.
• Maximizing room yield and hotels revenue through innovative sales practices and yield
management programs.
• Prepare a monthly financial reporting for the management and board.
• Draw up plans and budget (revenues, costs, etc.) for the management and board.
• Helping in the procurement of operating supplies and equipment, and contracting with
third-party vendors for essential equipment’s and services.
• Overseeing and managing all departments and working closely with department heads on a
daily basis.

• Provide effective leadership to hotel team members.
• Lead in all aspects of business planning.
• Respond to audits to ensure continual improvement is achieved.
• Corporate client handling and take part in new client acquisition along with the sales team
whenever required.
• Responsible for safeguarding the quality of operations both (internal & external).
• Responsible for legalization, Occupational Health & Safety Act, fire regulations and other
legal requirements.
• Develop and implement an intuitive and efficient marketing strategy to promote the hotel’s
services.
• Communicate with customers when appropriate (welcome them in the facilities, address
their complaints, find solutions to problems, offer information etc.)
• Deal with maintenance issues, shortages in staff or equipment, renovations etc.
• Collaborate with external parties such as suppliers, travel agencies, event/conference
planners etc.

• Inspect facilities regularly and enforce strict compliance with health and safety standards.
• Monitor staff performance, ensuring the hotel is running well and guests are happy.
• Set budgets and room rates, allocate funds and approve expenditures for various
departments.

Requirements and skills
• Understanding of all hotel management best practices and relevant laws and guidelines.
• Working knowledge of MS Office.
• Excellent customer service skills as well as a business mind-set.
• Demonstrable aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving.
• Reliable with an ability to multi-task and work well under pressure.
• Outstanding leadership skills and a great attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• 3 years of experience working in a managerial position.
• Degree in Hospitality and Tourism/Business Administration or relevant field.
• The candidate must have a strong background in Marketing.
