About

Zimbabwe Health Interventions (ZHI) is a not-for-profit human development organisation which is registered as a Private Voluntary Organisation (PVO 17/22). ZHI’s mission is to develop and deliver innovative and sustainable high impact integrated health interventions with local communities while working with and strengthening existing institutions.
The Accelerated and Comprehensive HIV Care for Epidemic Control in Zimbabwe (ACCE) project’s objective is to complement the government of Zimbabwe (GOZ)’s efforts towards epidemic control by targeting testing to efficiently identify PLHIV, ensuring all newly diagnosed PLHIV are immediately linked to treatment, and all PLHIV on treatment have ready access to antiretroviral therapy (ART), are retained on treatment, and remain virally suppressed. The program is being implemented in 9 districts in Midlands (Gweru, Kwekwe, Mberengwa and Gokwe South) and in Manicaland (Makoni, Mutare, Chipinge, Mutasa and Buhera).

Basic Function

The HIV and SRH Integration Nurse will function as a roving nurse, with a designated health facility base for daily reporting. Reporting to the District HIV and SRH Integration Officer, this role involves implementing high-quality integrated cervical cancer screening and treatment activities for women living with HIV (WLHIV). The nurse will also enhance the provision of comprehensive HIV prevention, care, and treatment services for pregnant and breastfeeding women, and support HIV-exposed infants in the effort to eliminate mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of HIV. Additionally, the nurse will play a crucial role in implementing PMTCT services, focusing on identifying and following up on HIV-exposed infants until the final PMTCT outcomes are achieved. This position requires close collaboration with community health workers, OVC partners, and other key stakeholders.

Job Description

Conduct cervical cancer screening using VIAC / HPV (human papillomavirus) DNA methods and treatment of precancerous lesions for WLHIV between the ages of 25-65 years as per national guidelines; Actively link clients to other health services (STI screening and treatment, mental health screening, TPT, Viral Load collection); Refer clients with suspected invasive cancer to the next level of care in consultation with the hospital doctor and/or mentor; Conduct educational awareness within facilities and community groups to enhance accurate sensitization to cervical cancer screening &treatment among WLHIV and PMTCT services; Conduct integrated outreach visits to screen women in hard-to-reach areas for cervical cancer and offer PMTCT services; Actively link HIV-negative pregnant and breastfeeding women to HIV prevention services and routinely screen for IPV/GBV services during index case testing (ICT) and partner notification services; Follow-up HIV-positive pregnant women to prevent mother-to-child transmission by adhering to national protocols and guidelines; Conduct Early Infant diagnosis and ensure PCR is done on all babies born to HIV-positive mothers, in line with the EID testing algorithm; Implement tracking of mother-baby pairs receiving PMTCT services up to the final HIV outcome (18 months and 6 weeks after cessation of breastfeeding), and transition to ART clinic; The RHN nurse will be asked to perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and abilities

Proficiency in English and relevant local language; Knowledge of community health practices and general medical ethics; Demonstrated ability to work effectively and efficiently within a team; Working under minimum supervision and self-motivated to achieve goals and targets; Ability to analyze and report relevant activities; Sound knowledge of HIV care and treatment practices in Zimbabwe; Results-oriented and able to meet project deliverables; Computer literacy is a must.

Qualifications and experience

RGN/PCN/Primary Care Nursing or equivalent with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; Registration and valid practicing license with the Nurses Council of Zimbabwe; Certificate in Rapid HIV Testing and Counselling; Training, knowledge, and experience in; cervical cancer screening, Cervicography, and PMTCT services; Training in advanced HIV management is an added advantage; Motorbike riding experience is an added advantage.
