How can you make a difference?
A challenging and exciting opportunity has arisen within UNICEF Zimbabwe’s Health and Nutrition Section for a committed and highly experienced Health Specialist (MNCH). The Health Specialist reports to the Health Manager (Level 4) for guidance and general supervision. The Health Specialist supports the development and preparation of the health programme and is responsible for managing, implementing, monitoring, evaluating, and reporting the programme progress of the maternal newborn, child survival/development and non-communicable disease (NCD) programme within the country programme. The Health Specialist provides technical guidance and management support throughout the programming processes to facilitate the administration and achievement of concrete and sustainable results according to plans, allocation, results based-management approaches and methodology (RBM), organizational Strategic Plans and goals, standards of performance, and accountability framework. The specialist works in conjunction with the Health Manager -MNCH to achieve UNICEF’s maternal, newborn and child survival goals and objectives for the country. This must be done in full alignment with the Primary Health Care approach and in collaboration with Nutrition components within the country programme to efficiently delivery concrete results at scale.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
A medical degree with added advanced (Masters) university degree in one of the following fields is required: public health/nutrition, pediatric health, family health, health research, global/international health, health policy and/or management, environmental health sciences, biostatistics, socio-medical, health education, epidemiology, or another relevant technical field.
A minimum of five years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas is required: public health/nutrition planning and management, maternal and neonatal health care, or health emergency/humanitarian preparedness.
Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization and in a host government health system is considered as an asset.
Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
Fluency in English is required, a local language is an asset.

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance. Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station, which will be facilitated by UNICEF, is required for IP positions. Government employees that are considered for employment with UNICEF are normally required to resign from their government before taking up an assignment with UNICEF. UNICEF reserves the right to withdraw an offer of appointment, without compensation, if a visa or medical clearance is not obtained, or necessary inoculation requirements are not met, within a reasonable period for any reason.
