APOPO is a Belgium Humanitarian Demining Organization operating in Zimbabwe. Our mandate is clear landmines and explosive remnants of war that threaten lives and livelihoods.
Role overview
The Head Cook is responsible for the daily preparation of food for APOPO employees, including the cooking of meals, and maintaining high standards of food quality, food production and portion control using the standardized menu. In charge of ordering and the inventory of food.
Duties and responsibilities
• Check freshness of food and ingredients;
• Supervise and coordinate activities of Cooks and other food preparation workers;
• Develop recipes and determine how to present the food;
• Plan menus and ensure uniform serving sizes and quality of meals;
• Inspect supplies, equipment and work areas for cleanliness and functionality;
• Train and supervise cooks and other food preparation workers;
• Order and maintain inventory of food and supplies and
• Monitor sanitation practices and follow kitchen safety standards.
• Ability to work in remote area (Camp setting)
Qualifications and competencies
• Applicants should have a minimum of five (5) Ordinary Level subjects including English Language;
• In addition, the applicants must have a National Diploma in Professional Cookery/National Diploma in Hotel and Catering Studies/Diploma in Professional Cooking and Culinary Arts;
• Two (2) years relevant post qualification experience as a Cook is a requirement.

• This is a fixed term engagement. The successful candidate will be engaged full time working at APOPO Sango Border Camp.
