Group Chief Risk Officer

we are seeking a dynamic and visionary Group Chief Risk Officer (GCRO) to join our Executive Team. This

The Job:
Reporting to reporting to the Chief Group Chief Executive Officer, s/he will be responsible for leading the
following key strategic areas:
Role Expectations:
• Risk Management – Ensuring all business risks are identified, assessed, managed and monitored
effectively. The role will develop risk strategies, implement risk management processes, and provid
strategic advice to the Executive team and Board of Directors.
• Strategic Execution – Managing key projects and ensuring efficient operations across the business
entities. S/he will act as a trusted advisor and intermediary for the Executive team, fostering
collaboration, driving performance, and supporting decision-making processes.
• Actuarial Oversight – Leading and overseeing all actuarial activities, including risk and economic
capital management, asset liability management, financial modelling, product pricing, reserving and
reinsurance.
Risk Management Framework
• Develop and implement a comprehensive risk management framework that aligns with the company’s
strategic objectives.
• Develop clear and actionable risk appetite and tolerance statements to guide strategic
decision-making and ensure alignment with the organization’s overall risk management framework.
• Establish governance structures to drive adherence, including risk policies, procedures and standards
to ensure consistent risk management practices across the organisation.
• Ensure compliance with relevant industry, regulatory and statutory requirements.
• Identify and assess potential risks, conducting regular assessments to develop risk profiles for the
various business units and activities.
• Utilize quantitative and qualitative methods to evaluate the likelihood and impact of identified risk.
• Measure and monitor risk exposure across the Group, using fit for purpose systems and techniques to
track and report on risk exposures and key risk indicators and ensure appropriate and timely escalation
procedures exist and are adhered to.
Strategic Execution
• Collate appropriate data and curate it to assist with the development and implementation of strategic
goals and objectives.
• Align business unit and departmental goals with overall Group Company strategy.
• Oversee & coordinate the execution of high priority business projects.
Actuarial Oversight
• Collaborate with existing actuarial departments, providing direction, mentorship and supporting
development for actuarial staff.
• Present actuarial findings and provide strategic advice to the executive team on actuarial matters,
including financial performance, risk management and market conditions.
• Oversee the preparation and review of actuarial management information and reports, ensuring
accuracy and compliance with regulations and standards.
• Ensure integration of actuarial insights into business planning and decision-making processes.
Financial Modelling and Analysis
• Lead the development and maintenance of financial models to support pricing, reserving, re-insurance,
asset liability management, capital management and forecasting.
• Drive the development of analytics capabilities to assess financial data to provide insights on trends,
risks and opportunities.
• Ensure the robustness and accuracy of financial models, incorporating best practices and emerging
techniques.
Product Pricing and Development
• Oversee the actuarial aspects of product development including pricing, profitability analysis and
competitive positioning.
• Ensure pricing strategies align with organisation’s financial goals and risk appetite.
The Person:
• A Business Management Degree, Risk Management, Actuarial Sciences, Mathematics/ Statistics or a
related field. Fellow, or equivalent professional designation.
• Proven track record of minimum of at least 5 years in a Senior Management, or Executive roles
leading a Risk Management/ Actuarial department.
• Good execution skills: Ability to implement strategies by thinking through implementation steps, taking
operational decisions, and putting in personal effort as needed.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills: Ability to break complex problems into bite-size pieces for
prioritization and resolution.
• Technical skills: Strong technical skills in risk management models, actuarial and analytics, including
financial modelling, reserving, risk assessment and product pricing.
• Results-driven; highly focused on accountability.
• Visionary Leader: Ability to guide the team into repositioning the business for the long run. The vision
of the future must be strong, providing the foundation for investment of resources towards the future
vision.
• Able to operate in a dynamic, fast paced, and competitive environment.
