The Finance Officer will be responsible for effective capturing of accounting information, safe keeping of accounting documents and processing of all transactions for the organization. They will ensure all accounting records are adequately supported for effective audit trail with a proper filing system. They will perform month end ledger reconciliation and prepare donor reports.
DUTIES
The incumbent will perform the following specific duties:
Capturing of accounting data from source documents to the books of original entry.
Review adequacy of supporting documents before payments are made.
Preparing bank reconciliations and general ledger reconciliations and clearing sub ledger
accounts.
Input in budget preparations and monthly variance analysis.
Provision of supporting documents to the auditors and tracking their return.
Review Debtor and Creditor aging for clearance.
Ensure timely payments.
Liaising with project staff on liquidation and reconciliation of advances.
Track bank balances and notify Accountant of cashflow position.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor of Accounting Degree and studying towards a professional qualification. At least 3 years’ experience in a similar role preferably in an NGO organisation.
Membership with any Accounting professional body will be an added advantage.
The incumbent must also possess the following essential knowledge and skills: – Sound and up to date knowledge of accounting concepts, financial reporting standards and donor rules and regulations.
Proficient in computer skills such as Microsoft Excel and have experience preparation of donor reports. Possession of good interpersonal communication skills and must have good planning and problem-solving skills.
