Main purpose of job:
The Technical Works Group of the British Embassy is seeking to recruit an experienced Electrician with a minimum of 5 years hands on experience post apprenticeship training. The successful candidate is expected to carry out electrical and generator repairs, installations and routine maintenance works at British Embassy Harare properties including the Residence and main office compound and other facilities.
Roles and responsibilities:
- Carry out mandatory planned preventative maintenance on electrical installations and generators
- Domestic and industrial repairs of electrical installations
- New generator installations
- Trouble shooting and repairs on electrical systems.
- Monitoring, troubleshooting and reporting on solar systems
- Make recommendations for electrical and generator installations improvements.
- Proactively identify electrical and generator maintenance needs and address them immediately.
- Supervise external contractors to ensure good working practices and compliance to BE polices and UK specifications
- Ensuring electrical systems meet safety standards and regulations
- Effectively communicating with clients and team members
- Carry out minor repairs in other technical fields as required
- 4 years Apprenticeship trained class one electrician
- A recognised electrical qualification to diploma level or equivalent.
- Solar System Maintenance and troubleshooting
- Current clean driver’s licence.
- 5 years hands on experience in a similar position
- IT skills essential
- Strong oral and written communication skills
Language requirements:
Language: English and any local language
Level of language required: Proficient
- Ability to work cohesively as part of a technical team.
- Good listening skills and ability to follow instructions.
- An appreciation of plumbing, welding and carpentry an added advantage
Learning and development opportunities:
In consultation with the line manager, additional training will be provided to support the job holder’s learning and development needs.
Working patterns:
The full-time working week excluding breaks is 35 hours. Typical working hours are 08:00 – 16:30 per day. Flexible working is available at post in line with the British Embassy Harare (BEH) flexible working policy
- Employees recruited locally by the British Embassy in Harare are subject to the Terms and Conditions of Service according to local employment law in Zimbabwe.

- Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount.
