DUTIES
Position is the lead reporting/business support officer on trade and commercial issues as well as a selection of Zimbabwe’s target economic sectors. Leads the embassy’s commercial support for U.S. companies, working closely with Department of Commerce contacts. Backs up the environment, science, technology, and health portfolio, and economic aspects of the portfolio of the Deputy Political/Economic Chief. The position is responsible for a broad range of analytical reporting and information gathering on required economic and commercial issues.

Requirements:
EXPERIENCE:
Two years professional experience in an office setting in the fields of business strategy or administration, government, economics, international relations, political science, with professional experience conducting and writing research and analysis, or journalism.
JOB KNOWLEDGE
Good working knowledge of methods of reporting and analysis, and/or knowledge of international practices in politics, business, extractive industries, or agriculture. Expanded experience in developing written reports and oral briefs on economic and commercial topics. Good Working knowledge and understanding of the host country’s economy, local business customs and practices, market channels, host government’s laws and regulations as well as policies relating to the commodity industry sector(s). Incumbent must have knowledge of government contacts in the commercial sector.
Education Requirements:
Two years of university studies.
LANGUAGE:Level IV English is required (fluency in speaking, reading, writing)
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to develop and maintain an extensive range of mid- and high-level contacts in the host government, private sector, and non-governmental organizations. Ability to inter-relate political developments to economic and social forces

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Harare may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.
For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.
The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.

* IMPORTANT: Applicants who claim status as a preference-eligible U.S. Veteran must submit a copy of their most recent DD-214 (“Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty”), equivalent documentation, or certification. A “certification” is any written document from the armed forces that certifies the service member is expected to be discharged or released from active duty service in the armed forces under honorable conditions within 120 days after the certification is submitted by the applicant. The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service. Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.
** This level of preference applies to all Foreign Service employees on LWOP and CS with re-employment rights back to their agency or bureau.
