ROLE: Drought Response Project Coordinator
LOCATION: Harare

Purpose of the Position
The Coordinator for African Risk Capacity (ARC) Replica Drought Early Actions in Zimbabwe, working under the Start Network, is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the day-to-day implementation of the projects led by Start Network members in Zimbabwe The coordinator will collaborate with stakeholders, local communities, and Start Network members to design, plan, and execute effective strategies that mitigate the impact of drought and ensure timely assistance to vulnerable populations. The role requires strong project management skills, excellent coordination abilities, and a deep understanding of the social, economic, and environmental dynamics of Zimbabwe.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Management
- Coordinate and oversee the implementation of early drought response projects in Zimbabwe, ensuring all activities are carried out per project objectives, timelines, and budgetary constraints.
- Develop detailed project plans, including work breakdown structures, activity schedules, and resource allocation, and regularly monitor project progress.
- Establish appropriate monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to track project outcomes and identify areas for improvement.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Foster strong working relationships and collaboration with relevant government agencies, NGOs who are members of the Start Network, communities, and other partners involved in drought response efforts.
- Coordinate and facilitate regular coordination meetings, workshops, and training sessions to promote knowledge sharing and joint planning among stakeholders.
- Liaise with local communities to ensure their active participation in decision-making processes and the effective implementation of early drought response initiatives.
Capacity Building
- Identify capacity gaps among local stakeholders, and partners and develop appropriate capacity-building plans to enhance their ability to respond to drought emergencies.
- Promote the integration of gender-sensitive approaches and ensure the empowerment of women and margin
Reporting and Documentation
- Prepare timely and accurate reports on project activities, progress, and outcomes for internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including data on project inputs, outputs, and impacts, as well as lessons learned and best practices.
- Contribute to knowledge-sharing platforms and participate in relevant district-level meetings, workshops, and forums to share experiences and contribute to the field of early drought response
KNOWLEDGE/ QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Food Security and Livelihoods, Disaster Risk Management, Development Studies or a related discipline. A master’s degree will be an advantage.
- Proven experience (at least 5 years) in project coordination, preferably in the field of Food assistance or humanitarian response in general
- Strong knowledge of drought dynamics, early warning systems, and community-based resilience approaches in the context of Zimbabwe or similar regions. Knowledge of early action is an added advantage.
- Excellent project management skills, including the ability to develop Detailed Implementation Plans, monitor progress, and ensure timely delivery of results.
- Demonstrated experience in coordinating and collaborating with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and local communities.
- Familiarity with the African Risk Capacity and its drought early action mechanisms will be highly desirable.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and identify innovative solutions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Zimbabwe will be an asset.
- Flexibility and willingness to travel within Zimbabwe as required.
