Under the direction of the Vice Chancellor, the Director of Marketing and Communications
shall be responsible for the development and marketing the University of Zimbabwe as the
Nation’s International Brand and Education 5.0 Flagship.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Director of Marketing and Communication will be responsible for:
a) Providing leadership to the University of Zimbabwe’s Marketing, Communications,
Public Relations and Internationalisation team in the management of the institution’s
Heritage-based Education 5.0 Brand as guided by the University’s Strategic Plan
(2019-2025) and consistent with National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) and
informed by international best practice;
b) Leading in the development and implementation of the University’s marketing and
communication policies, strategies, systems and procedures;
c) Branding and marketing of the University’s projects, programmes, products, goods
and services in accordance with the University’s outcome-based strategic thrust;
d) Liaising with the media houses, advertising agencies and suppliers that provide
marketing support and produce marketing materials for the University’s business;
e) Providing leadership in the University’s public relations, protocol and
internationalisation agenda;
f) Marketing, communication and dissemination of the University’s academic
programming processes and results, including Research, Innovation,
Industrialisation and Community outreach and engagement outputs and outcomes;
g) Developing the University’s marketing and communicating materials and periodic
reports;
h) Managing the planning, conducting and reporting of the University’s major events;
i) Any other duties as assigned by the Vice Chancellor.
Qualifications and Experience
i. At least a Master’s degree in either Communications, Marketing, Public Relations,
or equivalent professional qualification.
ii. Relevant experience and demonstrable leadership and communication skills
iii. Demonstrable practical skills and knowledge in social media and digital marketing.
iv. Track record of professional integrity, sound leadership skills, resourcefulness and
ability to work with minimal supervision
