DIRECTOR LEGAL AND COMPLAINTS HANDLING SERVICES X1
REPORTS TO: CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
STATION: HEAD OFFICE
MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
● To provide legal support to the Commission and to ensure compliance with legislation, regulations and policies.
● To oversee the running of the complaints handling services and investigation mandate of the commission
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop policies and procedures for the Legal and Corporate Service Function.
Develop and facilitate implementation of the corporate legal strategy of the Commission.
Attend to policy formulation in relation to the pieces of legislation relevant to the Commission.
Draft and negotiate contracts and Memoranda of Understanding entered into by and between the Commission and stakeholders.
Ensure that all contracts entered into by the Commission are legally compliant.
Ensure that contracts are properly documented, executed and recorded for safekeeping.
Support the Chief Executive Officer in the provision of secretarial, legal, compliance and governance advisory services to the Commission.
Ensure the Commission’s compliance with corporate governance best practices, legal and regulatory standards.
Prepare Commission meeting board packs and ensure distribution.
Refer files of matters requiring legal advice and litigation to the Civil Division of the Attorney General’s office and provide appropriate instruction guided by the Commission.
Represent the Commission in court matters involving the Commission in conjunction with an officer from the Attorney General’s office.
Represent the Commission at meetings or conferences relevant to the position.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, annual, and other reports.
Appraise, supervise and offer advice to subordinates.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES
● A Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree.
● A relevant Master’s degree is an added advantage.
● Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a legal environment.
● Registered legal practitioner in Zimbabwe.
● Must be a member of the Law Society of Zimbabwe.
● Full understanding of the legal statutes and interpretation of the law.
● Excellent contract management skills.
● Excellent report writing, presentation skills and excellent leadership skills.
● Ability and tenacity to work with diverse stakeholders.
● Must be a person of high integrity, professionalism, assertiveness and innovation, who values confidentiality.
● Good oral and written communication skills
● Proficient in Microsoft packages.
● A clean class four (4) driver’s licence.
