Please note that the duties and responsibilities of an academic member of staff at Midlands State University are grouped into 5 main categories, which are:
(a) Teaching – the incumbent is expected to teach or deliver lectures in accordance to the Department and or Faculty guidelines and standards.
(b) University Service and Community Engagement – the incumbent should participate in all Department/ Faculty/ School and University activities such as attending meetings, training workshops, conferences and seminars, among others.
(c) Research – the incumbent is expected to engage in active research in his/her area of specialization which benefits both the students and the University.
(d) Innovations – leading to tangible products and services
(e) Industrialisation – through commercialisation of products
FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE, ENVIRONMENT AND NATURAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENT
POST: DEPUTY DEAN
JOB SUMMARY
The Deputy Dean plays a pivotal role in providing academic and administrative leadership within the Faculty. The position involves teaching, research, and community engagement, fostering innovation and industrialization within the faculty’s disciplines.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- An earned Doctoral degree in a field relevant to the Faculty
- At least 3 years University teaching experience
- Should be at the level or qualify to be at Senior lecturer or higher grade
- Commitment to the institution’s teaching and learning methodologies based on work related learning, flexible packaging and multi-campus system
DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES
- Assisting the Executive Dean in providing academic and administrative leadership to the faculty, including all faculty planning, management and control in issues of Human resources, Budgets, resources and Infrastructure, academic programmes and examinations in the Faculty
- Assisting the Executive Dean in leading the Faculty to achieve its objectives in the development and delivery of sound and innovative academic programmes
- Contributing to excellence in teaching, research and internationalisation through partnerships and linkages with other universities and organisations outside the country.
- Establishing links and partnerships with government departments, industry, NGOs and civil society organisations to support student internship, Work Related Learning and community engagement
- Undertaking resource mobilisation to support teaching, research, innovations and community engagement in the Faculty
- Coordination of Work-Related Learning in consultation with the Faculty Liaison Officer, Chairpersons and Executive Dean
- Chairing the Faculty Quality Assurance, Research Ethics and other sub-committees of the Faculty Planning Board
- Coordination of research conferences, seminars, training and capacity building programmes in consultation with Chairpersons, Executive Dean and other relevant University Departments
- Championing, together with the Executive Dean, the education 5.0 philosophy in the Faculty and the University at large.
