A local faith based organization that works with vulnerable communities in Agriculture, Food Security, Nutrition, Livelihoods, Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Health, Education, Gender and Protection humanitarian and development work seeks the services of a consultant to develop a comprehensive humanitarian and development manual that will guide its operations and ensure consistency in the organization responses:
Job Title: Consultant- Development of Humanitarian and Development Manual
Purpose of the position:
The objective of this consultancy is to develop a humanitarian and development manual that
outlines our policies, procedures, and best practices in humanitarian and development response.
The manual should cover all aspects of humanitarian and development programming, including
needs assessment, project design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, stakeholder
coordination, entry and exiting of the communities.
Scope of Work:
The scope of work will include the following:
Conduct a review of existing humanitarian and development manuals and guidelines
Consult with organizational staff members to gather input to the manual development
including theological reflections
Develop a comprehensive humanitarian and development manual that includes but not
limited to the following; 1) Introduction to humanitarian principles and standards; 2)
Needs assessment and project design; 3) Project implementation and management; 4)
Monitoring and evaluation; 5) Reporting and documentation; 6) Partnership and
coordination; 7) Safety and security; 8) Ethical considerations; and 9) Entry and exiting of
communities
Develop a training plan to roll out the manual to staff and partners
Orient staff on the manual
Desired Qualifications, technical skills and experience
Advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g. Development Studies, International
Development, Humanitarian and development studies etc)
At least 8 years of experience in humanitarian and development work with national and
international organization, including experience in developing policies and procedures
Strong understanding of humanitarian principles and standards
Previous experience of training staff from faith-based organizations on humanitarian and
development standards and principles
Excellent writing and communication skills
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
