Job Summary
General Description of the Role
GOAL is looking for a self-motivated and talented communications manager to lead the communications unit. The Communications Manager will lead and support GOAL Zimbabwe communications (internal and external); optimizing information and knowledge management and documentation; and building brand and organizational visibility, image and profile. The Communications Manager will also manage web-based information and communications and design along with expanding GOAL Zimbabwe’s profile on social media. The position also requires creativity and best practice to optimize various methodologies of receiving, analysing and communicating information. The Communications Manager is also responsible to oversee and provide robust leadership to the Communications department.
Key Duties
- Support GOAL Branding & Communications strategy and action plans in country
- Map the diverse audiences and lead the development of an integrated Communications and Branding Strategy that will effectively amplify GOALs work, mission and messages in alignment with GOAL strategy.
- Lead on development of informative and interesting press releases, press kits, newsletters, and related marketing materials.
- Lead in defining and executing various visibility and communication strategies and activities.
- Work with technical Programme Coordinators and MEAL team, to create and implement innovative strategies to tell the captivating human stories behind our impact and data.
- Ensure GOALs works are well communicated and visible. This includes research and prioritization of relevant events, platforms, and channels.
- Ensure GOAL Zimbabwe’s social media platforms are active and timely updated.
- Support programme operations by preparing materials, script development and presentations.
- Share and ensure compliance to GOAL’s branding and communication guidelines.
- Oversee and develop GOAL Zimbabwe communication tools (via website, social media, newsletters, app, annual report, one pager, publications, etc).
- Create and implement social media strategy (calendar, content creation, tracking engagement, feedback management).
- Lead the creation and distribution of the organisational newsletter to keep internal and external stakeholders updated and informed.
- Carry out regular media tracking and monitoring including key thematic issues. Share key relevant insights with the team to identify relevant actions, mitigations, and opportunities for programming.
- Create and implement creative ideas to drive the GOAL brand.
- Work with the other Technical Coordinators to enhance and streamline Communication across GOAL Zimbabwe and partners.
- Participate in the reviews of the strategic plan.
- Proactively stay abreast with developments in the sector to identify opportunities: platforms or channels for positioning, funding opportunities, mapping, etc
Requirements
- Advanced University Degree in Communications, Journalism, Social Sciences, or related fields
- A minimum of 4 years’ experience in communication and journalism field, team management experience and practical working experience in communications in development or humanitarian context.
- Passionate and deep commitment to GOAL’s mission of committing to transforming the lives of those who live in the world’s most vulnerable communities and building their resilience to withstand shocks and stressors.
- Track record in creating and executing effective communications strategies in NGO’s and private sector
- Strong skills in brand management, including reputation and risk management.
- Excellent writing and editing skills with a track record of telling stories in creative and impactful ways.
- Great eye for detail and design. Ability to create at least simple graphics and infographics or improve images for publishing using typical design software tools.
- Track record in managing various social media strategies and platforms successfully.
Desirable

- Knowledge of Shona, IsiNdebele, Kalanga and English are highly desired.
- Experience in executing successful campaigns and initiatives that influence various audiences to take transformative action (e.g. advocacy/policy, influence senior stakeholders).
- Certification in digital graphic design and technology
- Advanced MS office skills including effective use of SharePoint and cloud working tools.
