CHIEF WEBMASTER (1 POST)
The Chief Webmaster serves as the primary contact for all aspects of the University’s website(s), handling a range of responsibilities that may include web design and development, routine site and content maintenance, and various updates to ensure sites align with the goals and objectives of the University.
Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for the overall aesthetic appearance of University Websites.
Defining and designing user interactions on web pages, meeting both technical and user needs.
Developing back-end website applications.
Manage e-learning systems such as Google class or Moodle.
Domain and sub-domain registration.
Oversee the management of databases and creation of virtual machines.
Increasing website traffic through search engine optimisation and other strategies.
Identifying areas for modification in existing programmes and subsequently developing these modifications.
Testing website across browsers, operating systems and devices.
Monitoring online traffic and conversions.
Minimizing website downtime, debugging pages and fixing broken links or images.
Updating the website content and reviewing SEO.
Addressing user complaints.
Optimizing loading speeds and capacity.
Maintaining, configuring and troubleshooting servers.
Tracking, analysing and reporting web traffic statistics and reviewing content effectiveness.
Verifying all web and social media content-id consistent with the university design and style guide.
Staying abreast of developments in web applications and programming languages.
Working closely with other stakeholders to develop and deploy functional systems.
Determine the structure and design of web pages.
Create tools that enhance the user’s website experience.
Develop features to enhance the user experience.
Strike a balance between functional and aesthetic design.
Ensure websites are accessible across many platforms, including laptops and smartphones.
Maintain brand consistency throughout the design.
Work with clients to develop the overall look and design of a website.
Incorporate applications, graphics, audio and video clips into client websites.
Analysing users’ needs and then design, test, and develop software to meet those needs.
Recommending software upgrades in line with customer feedback (interests, likes and dislikes).
Designing and developing each piece of an application or system and plan how the pieces will work together.
Creating a variety of models and diagrams (such as flowcharts).
Ensuring that a program continues to function normally through software maintenance and testing.
Documenting every aspect of an application or system as a reference for future maintenance and upgrade.
Collaborating with other computer specialists to create optimum software.
Preparing reports on programming project specifications, activities or status.
Desired Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate must have at least MSc/MTech in Computer Science/Information Technology/Software Engineering and/Information Systems or equivalent and a relevant first degree. At least three (3) years relevant experience. Applicants should demonstrate knowledge, experience and proficiency in designing, deploying and managing web platforms or content management systems. Ability to code websites using HTML, CSS, Javascript, or other web-based programming languages. Proficiency with server-side languages such as Java and PHP. Familiarity with database technology such as MySQL and MSSQL. Familiarity with Content Management Systems WordPress, Joomla. Familiarity with Graphic Design and Multimedia programming. Experience with continuous deployment and automated testing i.e. GIT. A good team player, ability to learn new languages and technologies and excellent communication skills.
