The Deposit Protection Corporation(DPC) which is mandated by an Act of Parliament to insure public deposits in deposit taking Financial Institutions is searching for a suitable, qualified, and experienced individual to fill the role of Business Operations Director. The successful candidate will be based at the Head Office in Harare and will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The job entails the formulation of business strategies and policies to ensure that the Deposit Protection Corporation fulfills its statutory and business objectives viz
Protecting depositors
Promoting financial awareness and inclusion
Contributing towards the stability of Zimbabwe’s financial system
Enhancing competition amongst Contributory Institutions (Cis)
Promoting sound business practices in Contributory institutions (Cis)
Growing the Fund to ensure it meets its obligations if and when they arise
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Continuous assessment of the soundness of contributory institutions through off-site surveillance to monitor financial performance, soundness and compliance to prudential banking and Deposit Protection
requirements.
Evaluation, analysis, measurement, and monitoring of each contributory institution’s risk exposure to the
Deposit Protection Fund, in order to identify root-causes, and lead/drive the implementation of risk mitigation
strategies. Assessment of the adequacy levels of deposit cover and premium paid by contributory institutions on an on-going basis.
Disposal/selling of a failed contributory institution’s assets and the application of realised proceeds, in settlement of a failed contributory institution’s debts and liabilities in terms of the law.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics, Actuarial Science or equivalent.
An MBA/MBL degree or equivalent is a prerequisite.
At least 8 years experience at senior management level within the financial services sector or regulatory environment, with emphasis on risk management, compliance/internal control, and macro/micro level banking systems evaluation;
Knowledge of banking supervision and related banking sector prudential regulations;
Prior knowledge/background in deposit insurance;
High level of computer literacy, with knowledge of statistical/modeling software, and other application packages.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with all stakeholders.
