BUSINESS AUTOMATION MANAGER (1 POST)
The Business Automation Manager is responsible for leading the implementation and optimisation of automation solutions across the institution. The Manager works closely with stakeholders to identify opportunities to automate processes, improve operational efficiency, and drive digital transformation. The ideal candidate must have extensive experience in process improvement, automation, and digital transformation. They possess strong technical knowledge of automation technologies, as well as excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills. Strong leadership and managerial abilities, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team towards achieving common goals. Effective communication and stakeholder management are also critical. The Manager is reports to the Director, Information and Communication Technology Services Department.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Business Automation Manager’s main principal accountabilities are:
• Analysing operational workflows and processes to find automation opportunities through in-house software development.
• Evaluate user requirements and selecting appropriate automation technologies.
• Managing the implementation of automation solutions, including coordinating cross-functional teams and ensuring successful deployment.
• Lead in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including analysis, design, coding, testing, and deployment.
• Perform unit, integration, and end-to-end testing to ensure software quality and identify/resolve defects.
• Establish governance frameworks, policies, and standards to enable secure, reliable, and scalable automation.
• Developing training programs to educate staff and students on new automation tools and processes.
• Collaborating with the Systems Manager and other stakeholders to integrate automation with existing systems.
• Analysing data and reporting on the impact and Return On Investments of automation projects.
• Staying informed of industry trends and providing strategic recommendations on future automation initiatives.
• Allocate and oversee the work of Engineers, Developers and Support Technicians on automation and software development.
Qualifications and Experience
• A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, with at least five years of experience in software development, at the level of Systems. Engineer or Systems Analyst preferably in a university setting.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., Java, PHP, C#, Python, JavaScript).
• Experience with software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, Waterfall).
• Experience with software development frameworks, libraries and version control systems (e.g., Git, SVN).
• Strong understanding of software design principles, data structures, and algorithms.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration abilities to work effectively in a team environment.
• Passion for staying current with industry trends and continuously learning new technologies.
• A track record of successful projects undertaken and leadership.
