Designation: Assistant Quants Manager
Business Unit: Risk Geographical Area Zimbabwe
Department: Risk Vacancy Manager Senior Manager – Risk

Purpose of the job: Apply advanced financial, economic or statistical methods to develop and validate risk models.

Main Focus Areas
• To continuously improve the bank’s existing models through regular recalibration exercises of the model
components (PD, EAD, LGD, and economic modeling) while improving the monitoring and reporting processes.
• Assist in developing risk measurement tools for credit risk, market risk, asset liability management tools, and other critical business models.
• Carry out data cleaning and all relevant data preparation tasks related to modeling capital requirements.
• Carry out model calibrations under relevant supervision using software such as R, Python, EViews, VBA, C++, or others.
• Manage the monthly production of IFRS 9 expected credit losses using the models whilst providing insight and analytical commentary to allow senior management to make complex considerations and a high level of management judgment on the expected credit loss calculations of the Bank’s financial instruments.
• Assist with developing additional end-to-end IFRS 9 ECL model solutions should the Bank widen its product offering.
• Validate the model assumptions and parameters and carry out analysis to improve accuracy over time.
• Develop business tools to communicate risk-based pricing to lending units and sales teams in collaboration with the appropriate support function.
• Log issues presented by business units related to risk measures and pricing that are adversely affecting business operations and
• Model review and diagnostics using appropriate backtesting tools and techniques.
• Prepare various reports related to model governance requirements.
• Carry out data cleaning and all relevant data preparation tasks related to IFRS requirements.

Qualifications and Work Experience
• BSc (Honours) in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Financial Modelling, Finance, Physics, Engineering or equivalent
• A master’s degree would be an added advantage.
• At least 2 – 5 years’ experience in a similar position.

Skills and Competencies:
• Good knowledge of Banking departments and operations and a good understanding of risk
management and procedures.
• Perfect understanding of the financial services industry.
• Advanced analytical and modeling skills.
• Advanced mathematical, analytical, and modeling skills.
• Proven ability to interact effectively with senior management & Ability to work within a team
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills (verbal and written).

Job-Related Knowledge
• Analytical skills and knowledge of stochastic calculus, Monte Carlo simulations, and PDE
modelling.
• An analytical mindset with a proactive and practical approach to problem-solving.
• An understanding of quantitative model development (data modelling capabilities);
• Applied programming skills (e.g. EViews, VBA, C++, MatLab, SQL, R, Python);
• Possesses strong financial analysis and risk reporting skills.
• Advanced knowledge of data analysis tools, including skills to develop analysis queries and procedures in various software applications for data segmentation, aggregation, and statistics.
