Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) is an autonomous parastatal under the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. It is an internationally accredited examinations board. ZIMSEC is an examinations board responsible for assessment, evaluation and documentation of the academic readiness, learning progress, and skill acquisition of students at primary and secondary school levels in Zimbabwe. The Council is inviting suitably qualified and motivated persons for the above-mentioned vacant position that has risen.
The Assistant Database Administrator works under the guidance of the Database Administrator and will be responsible for monitoring, maintenance and operational support of the Council’s entire portfolio of databases. He/She maintains reliability, stability and data integrity of the databases and provides support in the administration, backup and security of various databases and continually assesses, improves, and optimizes the Council’s database environment.
DUTIES
Assist the Database Administrator in installing, creating, upgrading & supporting Oracle and SQL server databases in production & development environments, applying patches on production, test & development instances.
Monitor performance of database systems resources and query throughput.
Optimize SQL code as necessary.
Migrating Data.
Monitor and maintain database storage resources.
Monitor and maintain database maintenance plans for backups, index rebuild/defragment, and database statistics.
Performing day-to-day activities such as daily error checks and database health monitoring of physical resources (disk space, memory, CPU, etc.) and performance parameters adjustment as needed.
Maintain database documentation as required.
Work under the guidance of the Database Administrator to maintain and administer database security access.
Trouble shoot and resolve database connectivity issues.
Follow change management processes to implement database configuration changes.
Follow problem management processes to troubleshoot and resolve recurring issues.
Proactively monitor and respond to database alerts.
REQUIREMENTS
HND or Degree in ICT
3 years’ experience in Oracle and SQL Server databases.
Excellent knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, integrity and SQL
Required Competencies and Attributes
Manage multiple database and application servers in a highly complex integrated environment
Maintain data integrity of databases
Develop SQL statements, procedures and functions
Good communication skills and management reporting
Responsibility and reliability
Team player
