Consumer Protection Commission (CPC)

The Consumer Protection Commission was established under the Consumer Protection Act Chapter 14:44 (No. 5 of 2019) which became Law on 10 December 2019. This Act repealed the Consumer Contract Act Chapter 8:03 and is administered by the Minister for Industry and Commerce. The Consumer Protection commission’s core function is to “protect consumers horn unconscionable, unreasonable, unjust or otherwise improper trade practices, as well as deceptive, misleading, unfair or fraudulent conduct.”
The Consumer Protection Commission (CPC) is now inviting suitably qualified and experienced individuals to apply for the above-mentioned position that has risen in the Commission.

Conduct research on economic issues relating to consumer awareness and protection and disseminate research findings
Act as the spokesperson of the Commission
Formulate recommendations, policies, or plans on interventions in consumer markets where infringements are observed
Develop guidelines and standards and prepare points of view used in forecasting trends and formulating consumer protection policy and interventions
Explain economic impact of policies on consumers and businesses.
Provide advice and consultation on economic relationships to businesses, public and private agencies, end other employers.
Study the socioeconomic impacts of new public policies, such as proposed legislation, taxes, services, and regulations and advise the Commission on implications on consumer welfare.
Provide litigation support, such as writing reports for expert testimony or testifying as an expert witness on matters concerning protection of consumer rights.
Testify at regulatory or legislative hearings concerning the estimated effects of changes in legislation or public policy and present recommendations based on well considered analysis in relation to consumer welfare issues

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Media Studies, Policy Analysis, Economics or related field.
Master’s degree in Media Studies, Economics, Policy Analysis or related field preferred.
A PhD would be an added advantage.
Minimum of 5 years experience related to reporting on programs on social protection
