Job Title: Agronomist/Projects Coordinator
Job Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable Agronomist/Projects Coordinator to join our growing agricultural team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about agriculture and possess a strong ability to design, implement, and monitor innovative and sustainable crop production systems.
This role requires a well-rounded professional with expertise in soil science, crop management, and water conservation. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating agricultural projects, providing technical guidance, and ensuring effective training and development of both staff and out growers.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and prepare comprehensive agricultural programmes.
• Identify and evaluate opportunities for new agricultural projects.
• Design and oversee the implementation of sustainable crop and vegetable production systems.
• Develop strategic approaches to optimize crop and vegetable production.
• Conduct soil, crop, and water analysis to inform farming practices.
• Coordinate and manage agricultural projects from inception to completion.
• Train staff and build capacity in agronomic practices and project implementation.
• Provide technical support and capacity building for farm workers and outgrowers.
• Manage and support the outgrower development program.
• Implement and manage agricultural systems for efficiency and sustainability.
• Lead the design of appropriate agricultural practices and provide technical support in crop and vegetable production.
• Offer expert advice on the cultivation of food crops, vegetables, fruit trees, and fodder crops using climate-smart agriculture approaches.
• Design and support implementation of demonstration plots to showcase innovative crops and agronomic practices.
• Lead studies, assessments, and documentation of lessons learned and best practices in climate-smart agriculture.
• Advise project teams on best practices to ensure quality outcomes for all crop production activities.
• Collaborate with project and program teams to develop and refine tools and systems related to crop production and agronomy.
• Promote eco-friendly and climate-smart agricultural practices.
• Stay abreast of current trends, innovations, and best practices in the agricultural sector to ensure continuous learning and improvement.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
• Strong background in agronomy, crop science, soil science, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in agricultural project management.
• Ability to train and mentor agricultural staff and outgrowers.
• Knowledge of sustainable and environmentally sound farming techniques.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
• A passion for innovation in agriculture and rural development.
• Proficiency in statistical analysis software and data management tools
Education and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in agronomy, crop science, soil science, or a related field.
2. Diploma in Agriculture, Animal Health and Production, Agroecology, or related field.
3. Certification as a Certified Crop Adviser (CCA) or Certified Professional Agronomist (CPAg) may be beneficial.
