Internal Auditor – Information Systems (1 Post)

The incumbent will report to the Chief Internal Auditor and will be responsible for the delivery of audit assignments to assist the Chief Internal Auditor in providing an audit opinion on IT risks and control environment.

Qualifications and Experience

• Degree in Information Technology/Computer Science/Management Information Systems or related field;
• Membership to a professional Information Systems body such as ISACA;
• Professional Certification in Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or equivalent;
• At least three (3) years’ work experience in IT or audit related environment.

Duties and Responsibilities 

• Understand audit clients’ requirements, IS environment and systems;
• Identify computing general and application related processes, risks and controls;
• Collaborate with IT and business units to facilitate audits and improve systems and controls;
• Be able to apply and support the Internal audit automated methodology;
• Plan and manage resources needed for audit assignments;
• Extract data from various source systems using appropriate interrogation software packages;
• Document audit evidence in line with auditing standards, i.e. audit programs, working papers and reports presenting to senior management and the Chief Internal Auditor;
• Review IT systems, infrastructure, databases, policies, procedures, and physical controls to ensure operational efficiency, security and data integrity;
• Carry out audits of University IT systems; including assessing risk and evaluating the adequacy of risk management steps to forestall fraud or similar IT-related malpractices, and errors;
• Providing project assurance during the lifestyle of IT projects;
• Follow up on audit recommendations to ensure corrective actions are implemented effectively;
• Be the link between IS, business auditors and external auditors;
• Keep abreast of emerging IT audit technologies, cybersecurity threats, and industry best practices.
